#BangkokBound Guide: Part 1

First time in Bangkok? We've got some tips and tricks to share about navigating one of Asia's busiest capitals.

Q: How do I get to Beat Hotel from the airport?

A: From Suvarnabhumi Airport, you can take the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai for 150 B. before switching over to the BTS. The link takes 17 minutes. Head for Pra Khanong station, and Beat Hotel will be a short walk away. You could also rent a tuk-tuk if you're traveling with kids or excessive baggage.

From Don Muaeng Airport, you can take bus A1 to the city centre, or taxi to Ploen Chit area for about 200 B. (US$6). Traffic dependent, the journey could take from 30 minutes to an hour. There is no airport rail link from Don Muaeng.

Q: How can I stay connected to the internet during my stay?

A: There are traveller SIM cards for sale at the airport, and they go for as cheap as 200 B. (US$6). Data comes at 4G speed, and is capped at 1.5 GB.

Q: What's the best way to get around Bangkok?

A: The skytrain or BTS.

Bangkok is notorious for it's traffic congestion - getting anywhere during peak hour is a nightmare. Trains will be packed and vehicles on the roads come to a standstill.

Q: What about taxis and tuk-tuks?

A: Go by the meter.

Make sure the taxi driver puts on the meter as you enter the taxi. Try to stay clear from pre-negotiated prices - they never work out well for tourists.
